My little terrarium I made at Fernwood is doing awesome, the only down side to that is that I had to give it its first trim tonight and here is the beautiful little piece I had to cut off. I didn't realize until after I took this shot, but you can see a bit of the dirt under my fingernails from some time spent working in my garden today (almost 50 degrees out!), so this image seems to fit with my day and where my head is at (in the garden!). I got this great book at the library the other day, "Grow Great Grub" by Gayla Trail, who is my new hero, and have started frequenting her website www.yougrowgirl.com. I spent today and yesterday starting a compost barrel and just generally trying to get myself and my yard geared up for the season. I've been gardening for years but I'm approaching it from a much more scientific and methodical perspective this year. I think I got lucky with good soil and road that train for awhile, but now I need some help. And luckily I found it in this really great book, I would recommend it highly to any fellow gardeners out there.

Back to the body
I really did try to come up with something else interesting tonight, but this sort of shot seems to be my go to when I don't have anything else. I guess I consider myself the most interesting thing in my house (cue, "You're so vain"). Though really I just consider bodies facinating and beautiful and want the chance to photograph people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and whatever other atributes I can think of. But at the moment I am the only body at my disposal (and there are only certain parts of myself I'm willing to post on this blog), so I'm a bit limited right now.

Goddesses are women too
This area of my body, umm, demanded a lot of attention today, so I thought I might as well put it front and center. I'm pretty sure there are only women reading this blog, so hopefully no one minds a post about menstruation (it was bound to happen at some point during these 365 days). Aside from the obvious physical discomfort, I don't actually mind it all that much any more, and I've been introduced to another way of looking at this process lately that makes sense to me and just supports my belief in letting natural processes be natural (my husband could not understand why I hated birth control so much, I just kept telling him, "I don't feel human when I'm taking it!" and he would look at me like I'm crazy). So here's me, in all my crampy, bloated, weepy, irrational glory. And now begins the gradual climb back to normal, if such a thing exists for a woman, especially this one.

March snow
I told you all this month likes to mess with me! It snowed today. Oh well, I got some good photos out of it, and though it didn't feel like it today winter will be over soon. My daughter has been so excited for spring to get here that she actually teared up today when she saw the snow and said, "Mommy, is it winter time again?" She's so like her father sometimes it was kind of nice to see that she at least inherited my dislike of winter. Of course I hugged her and tried my best to reassure her that spring was indeed still coming, but sometimes it is so hard to appear empathic when I can't help but laugh at how cute she is.

Grey skies
Really dreary almost spring day today, one of those days when you're not sure the sun actually rose. But, on the bright side, it was quite warm, and the although it drizzled on and off it gave everything that "spring smell". And the birds are singing again. I can't help but love this time of year, even though it totally toys with my emotions (a snow in April in not unheard of in these parts).
These shots were somewhat unintended, I stopped to take some pictures of an old barn and instead became more interested in the tree branches above me. I like how the camera was able to pick up the subtle changes in the color of the sky. Overall, I'm actually pretty happy with these images, which is nice to say as I've been a little disappointed in myself lately.

Dome
Not one of my best shots, but all I had time for today so it will have to do. I've gotten into a bad habit of waiting until later in the day to do this and on Thursdays that comes back to bite me because I go to an evening yoga practice. So the last three Thursdays in a row I've taken something (in the dark) on my way home. Guess it did turn out pretty cool for the "February rain" post, but other than that not top notch.

Suesspiration
Roger was very inspired by a birthday reading of Dr. Seuss's "Horton Hatches the Egg", but if you ask me he may have taken it a little too far. Roger That.

Bridge
Shot of an old train bridge in Niles, MI at sunset. Here's a second shot with my husband in the picture for some perspective.
